Have you ever looked at a fabulously dressed woman and thought: “Her outfit is SO Cape Town?” How about Johannesburg or Durban? SKIP thinks that each of these cities follows its own style rules and has its own brand of fabulous. That’s why Skip is proud to introduce its #MyFabulous campaign.

Phase One kicks off in June, in celebration of the launch of the Skip Fabulous Edition pack. Fashion Designers Sibu Msimang (@SibuMsimang), Rich Mnisi (@Rich_Mnisi), and Jenevieve Lyons (@Jenevieve_Lyons) will start gathering inspiration via Instagram to create 10 complete looks inspired by the unique styles of the three major cities of South Africa – with help from you.

The inspiration for the ranges gathered during the month will come directly from the fabulous women living in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town. By using the each city’s hashtag – #MyFabulousDBN, #MyFabulousJHB and #MyFabulousCPT – and taking part in Skip South Africa’s Instawalks and weekly Instagram Challenges, the designers will be able to follow the images submitted and refer to them when they go into production.

Phase Two in July, our designers will start producing their respective ranges based on your images on Instagram.  During this phase, they’ll be translating your photographs into garments, and documenting their design process on their Instagram profiles.

Phase Three is the culmination of all your hard work – The #MyFabulous ranges will be all be revealed on 13 August 2015 at the Skip Fashion Exchange event in Johannesburg. You’ll be able to see how the designers have interpreted all the images they’ve seen over the last few weeks and how they’ve incorporated them in to wearable fashion. Here’s how you can inspire your city’s fabulous collection:

  • The project begins with countrywide Instawalks hosted by Skip. Because we all see the world in a different way, by exploring parts of the city together while documenting the sights we take in, we’ll be able to create a montage of images that represent #MyFabulous.
  • The dates for the Instawalks are as follows – but make sure you’re following @SkipSouthAfrica for more details:

o   30 May 2015 – Durban (kicking off at the Skate Park on the beach front at 10h00)

o   6 June 2015 – Johannesburg (meeting in Braamfontein outside Daleahs at 10h00)

o   13 June 2015 – Cape Town (meeting outside the Aquarium at the VA& Waterfront at 10h30)

  • Every week in June, Skip will also post Instagram Challenges on its account, @SkipSouthAfrica, asking for your interpretation of the colours, textures, shapes and other themes that define your favourite city’s look.
  • Tag your images with the hashtags so the designers and the public can track your submissions by searching Instagram for #MyFabulousDBN, #MyFabulousJHB and #MyFabulousCPT.
  • At the end of the project in August, the designers will choose the most inspiring contributor from their city. The winner will receive their respective city’s limited edition collection tailored to fit them.

Pantene Pro-V – Week 3 Review

At the beginning of the month, Pantene sent me their New Pro-V Smooth & Sleek, shampoo and conditioner to review. I’ve only been using this shampoo and conditioner on my hair for the past few weeks and am happy to announce that 100% impressed with the results.

The promise of healthier looking hair in completely true. Not only have I found my hair to be much more stronger and shinier, but I’ve also received numerous compliments about how healthy my hair looks (a strange kind of compliment, I know, but people have really noticed the difference and have been asking me what I use to get my hair looking so good). Another thing I love is the packaging, before Pantene I was using Tresemmé’s Keratin Smooth and the bottle was huge and awkward to handle in the shower. These Pantene bottles are so much easier to hold and are also great for travelling because they don’t take up much space.

Pantene tip: The golden rule is to never brush your luscious locks while they are wet. Be sure to only use wide-tooth combs to detangle, gently starting from the bottom and working your way up. Ripping through knots is a cuticle emergency so keep your strands safe.

5:2 Skin Diet (No Make-Up Challenge)

Yip, that’s me without make up, now lets get on with the blogpost…

I have a love hate relationship with going out without makeup on, it’s not that I need makeup to feel confident (although let me say here that makeup does give me a little confidence boost) but I genuinely enjoy putting on makeup in the mornings. I love picking out my eyeshadow and deciding which mascara to wear. I love trying out different shades of blusher and playing around with contouring. But hearing about this no makeup challenge and all it’s benefits, got thinking. Maybe giving up makeup wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world?

You may have heard of the 5:2 diet (2014’s most popular weight loss diet in the UK) where you eat normally five days a week and then fast for two days. The 5:2 skin diet adopts the same strategy, ie: going without makeup for two days a week. Experts say that taking a few days off from wearing makeup promotes skin-cell turnover and regeneration, resulting in glowier, younger-looking skin. It also helps skin “detox” from potentially irritating/drying chemicals and buildup that can lead to breakouts.

 “Loading up on pore-clogging cosmetics makes it more difficult for your skin to maintain its delicate pH balance. By cutting out those potentially breakout-inducing products, your complexion will have the chance to heal itself naturally. Think of it as spring cleaning sesh for your skin!” – skincare expert Indie Lee 

This concept has also gotten people talking about adjusting daily makeup routines, for instance when you’re on a diet you don’t eat healthy food for two days and then go back to eating junk food for the rest of the time, if you did that you wouldn’t see a difference. I know for me there are days where I probably don’t need concealer but I find a spot to put it on anyway and this is something to think about, do I really need all that make up on my face? Maybe instead of foundation, concealer and fixing powder, I should just skip the first two steps and go straight to the fixing powder?

I recently watched Claudia Sulewski’s video for teen vouge and she chats about the no makeup challenge and does a great little tutorial at the end, it’s worth the watch. So the question now is…are you up for the challenge?
